Faces of Liver UK
I look back on the early stages of my life and can really understand just how challenging they were for my family.
Louis
Young adult with a liver condition
About me
I’m Louis, I’m 24 years old and have been waiting for a liver transplant for almost three years now. Fortunately, I have kept relatively fit and healthy during that period, continuing to work a full-time job as a secondary teacher and running twice a week with my local run club which I love! I was born with biliary atresia so, when I was younger, my parents supported Children’s Liver Disease Foundation for many years. Now I’m a young adult I look back on my early stages of life and can really understand just how challenging they were for my family. So now I support Liver UK to raise more awareness. More on my story here.
Why Liver UK matters
My school days proved I was never going to become a health professional such as a doctor, surgeon, or a nurse…the sciences were never my forte! However, keeping fit, and being somewhat articulate and witty with words, is my thing and I can use these skills to give back – something which is very important to me. The excellent care I have received from the hepatology team at Kings, the ability to meeting so many other families in our situation, have only instilled in me a real sense of determination to give back to this community to help raise more liver awareness of liver disease. So whether it’s running marathons or speaking about my experiences, I can do this by supporting Liver UK.
