A tribute to Dr Alison Brind

April 8, 2024

It is with much sadness we reflect on the life of Dr Alison Brind, who has passed away from pancreatic cancer.  A passionate and committed Hepatologist, she dedicated her life to the liver, with incredible care and much humour. Alison was an amazing marathon runner, and raised funds for the British Liver Trust through sponsored treks and events, as well as being a very generous personal donor to the charity. She cared deeply that liver patients could get the treatment they needed – knowing there are so many myths about the liver, and often patients are stigmatised and ignored. By the time they reached Alison and her team they were often in need of major care and treatment.

Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2022, her mantra was ‘never stop’ and she never stopped at all – she raised funds for University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) charity with a sponsored run, and wrote a book called ‘I Never Stop’ based on diaries of her marathons and ultra runs, completed before her diagnosis. She firmly believed in never stopping and was a true inspiration.

The charity’s Love Your Liver events in and around Stoke will be run for the next five years thanks to her generosity; she was a kind, humble and caring person, and will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts are with her brother Richard, and her former colleagues in Stoke. Thank you, Alison, for all your kindness, compassion, and for championing liver health to the last – for never stopping.
