Patient stories
Angela underwent a life-saving liver transplant and is now gearing up to join hundreds of fellow transplant recipients at the British Transplant Games next week. Thank you for sharing your story, Angela
Angela received a liver transplant in 2019, is heading to Nottingham for the Games which take place from August 1 – 4. This will be the second time Angela has participated in the event, where she will compete in the women’s 3K walk. This achievement seemed unimaginable just a few years ago.
A local friend who has also had a liver transplant who urged me to take part in the British Transplant Games
Angela suffered sudden acute liver failure five years ago which resulted in her receiving an urgent liver transplant just before her 71st birthday. Since her operation she has received information and support from the British Liver Trust and feels fortunate that she’s been able to take up walking again, as she had always enjoyed it before her transplant.
“It was a local friend who has also had a liver transplant who urged me to take part in the British Transplant Games,” explains Angela. “I only did volunteering in 2022 but last year I competed in the women’s 3K walk. I won gold – but as I was the only entrant it wasn’t difficult! I am competing in the same race again this year – hoping to be the only one again!”
