Liver transplant

On this page you can find links to information on some key liver disease treatments. You can also find treatment information on our condition pages.

A liver transplant is an operation to remove a diseased liver and replace it with a healthy one. It can treat many types of liver disease. But it is a very big operation and needs life-long follow up care.

The medical name for the procedure is orthotopic liver transplant (OLT). It may be an option if the liver has stopped working as it should, and other treatments cannot help.
