Celebrating 30 Years of the National Lottery: Thank you for supporting our work across the UK

November 19, 2024

Today, the National Lottery turns 30, and we’re taking this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks for their incredible support. Over the years, National Lottery funding has played a pivotal role in helping us raise awareness and improve liver health across the UK. From public awareness campaigns to direct support for patients, their contributions have made a life-changing difference.

Transforming lives through patient support

One of the most impactful ways the National Lottery has supported us is through our patient and outreach services. This initiative is expanding our support network in the North West, North East, the Midlands, and London, reaching more people affected by liver disease and liver cancer. These groups provide a safe and welcoming space for patients and families to share experiences, find comfort, and build lasting connections.

Here’s what attendees have said about the impact of these groups:

  • “They’re inspiring, motivating, help break down the mystique around liver disease and reduce the sense of isolation. Talking with people who are going through the same thing as yourself is cathartic, and there is no judgement.”
  • “I really enjoy the groups and have made so many friends who are lovely and so supportive. I didn’t say anything in my first few groups, but over time my confidence grew.”

Thanks to the National Lottery, we’ve been able to:

  • Expand our patient support groups into the North West, North East, the Midlands, and London, ensuring more people can access these vital services.
  • Recruit two Outreach Officers for the North West and London, with plans to recruit additional officers in the North East and Midlands as part of this project.
  • Strengthen partnerships with liver units, hospitals, and voluntary organisations to better reach those in greatest need.

Expanding our support to children and families

The funding doesn’t stop here. The National Lottery is also supporting our children’s services, helping us provide tailored care and resources to young people and their families affected by liver conditions.

Together, we’re breaking down barriers, reducing isolation, and ensuring no one has to face liver disease alone. Thank you to the National Lottery and all our supporters for helping us make such a meaningful difference!
