A clinical study for people living with alcohol-related liver disease (ARLD)

June 3, 2026

The STARLIGHT Study is testing a study drug to see if it can reduce the harmful effects of alcohol on the liver in adults with ARLD who:
• Are 18 to 70 years of age.
• Have drunk alcohol within the last 4 months.
• Have been diagnosed with Alcohol-related Liver Disease

The study lasts for around 18 months and requires up to 22 visits to the hospital. You will be reimbursed for your time and travel.

Stopping drinking alcohol is recommended for people living with liver disease. However, this may not always be possible. You will still be able to participate in this study even if you have not stopped drinking.

Being in the study is voluntary, but by taking part you may help researchers better understand alcohol-related liver disease and help people with this condition in the future.

Participating hospitals in Bristol, Cambridge, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Middlesbrough, Glasgow, Plymouth
