You might often see charities asking people to consider making regular, or monthly donations rather than one-off gifts, but why is this? Tam, our Individual Giving Officer, explains.
“I’ve been working for the charity for four years. In that time, I’ve seen the organisation go from strength to strength, and I’m so proud of everything we have achieved, thanks of course to the generosity of our wonderful supporters!
My role in the fundraising team has given me a real insight into the way in which donations enable us to do our vital work, supporting patients and families, providing information and campaigning for change.
A challenge for all charities who rely on donations is having a predictable income. We’re grateful for every donation we receive, but monthly donations are particularly helpful, as they create a steady stream of income which gives us that ability to plan for the future, build long-term campaigns and respond quickly to unexpected events. All of this means we can reach more people even more effectively.
In my time here I’ve seen so many fantastic steps forward for the charity, from expanding our helpline hours, and improving how we get patient information into hospitals and GP surgeries, to the British Liver Trust and Children’s Liver Disease Foundation coming together to create Liver UK – allowing us to provide seamless support for people of all ages, whatever their liver condition.

Why are we talking about this now?
I wanted to sing the praises of monthly donations this month for a very special reason. During September we’re taking part in the Big Give monthly giving campaign, which helps new monthly donations go even further.
